The Department of Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a research specialist. Under the direction of Assistant Professor Euiseok Kim, the research specialist will conduct research on a fully funded project developing next-generation viral genetic neural circuit tracers. Duties will include cell culture assays, BSL-2 engineered virus production, molecular biology (cloning and PCR), fluorescent microscopy. The research specialist will also contribute to research projects by collecting and analyzing the resulting data, maintain basic lab reagents for molecular biology and histology, contribute to manuscripts, disseminate information through presentations, and assist with grant proposals.
This position will require the candidate to prioritize accuracy, successfully collaborate with other lab members, and employ excellent problem-solving, interpersonal communication, and critical thinking skills. - B.S./B.A. degree or higher (or an equivalent foreign degree) in neuroscience, molecular, cell, and developmental biology, biochemistry, virology, or a related discipline. It is expected that the degree requirement will be completed by June 18, 2024. See section D. Qualifications of the CAPM 602.300 Specialist Series policy for details of the degree requirements for each rank.
- Research experience in molecular and cell biology/neuroscience, virology, or related biomedical fields.
- A minimum of one year of experience in cell culture and/or virus production.
