Job Duties:

This position provides non-clinical and at times clinical services. The following are the primary examples of
work expected from this position:

  • Attending all CARE team meetings to become familiar with the cases that would benefit from support from the case manager, to connect them with on- and off-campus resources. Once the CARE team determines the student would benefit from the case manager’s support (because the case has a significant mental health component), collaborate and coordinate with the Case Manager from the Dean of Students’ Office, to provide the most thorough and effective support possible.
  • Getting referrals from WCMHS clinicians (via, phone, TEAMS messages, e-mails, or Medicat messages), to research, find, and connect the best resources that are accessible for our students. These resources may be clinical in nature (e.g. student is graduating, so they need to find a community clinician they can work with, based on their insurance coverage, clinical needs, financial and transportation needs, etc.); or they may be non-clinical (e.g. connecting the student with TESSA’s legal team, or helping the student find a low-income housing option, etc.).
  • Taking self-referrals from UCCS staff and faculty (via, phone, TEAMS messages, and/or e-mails), determining the needs of the community member (carry out a needs assessment), and connecting them with the appropriate resources and services in the community.
  • Carrying out needs assessments for each individual case so that an appropriate level of care is determined and planned. This may be carried out solo with interviews, or if there is a need for assessment of clinical mental health condition, in collaboration with the WCMHS clinicians who serve in the CARE team.
  • If there is a need, helping students practice emotion regulation skills, basic assertiveness, and other interpersonal skills to be able to improve accessibility of resources.
  • Once the referrals are made, following up with each case to make sure the needs are met; if not, continuing to work with the case until the established services and the resources start to benefit the individual.
  • Collaborating with the WCMHS Director to do outreach and education to the entire campus community, both about available resources for various populations, and about the role of this position on campus.
  • Providing training to all who are accepted into our Wellness Center training program with specific emphasis on providing training to social work students.
  • Providing mental health screenings for students who are seeking mental health services, writing a screening note so that student can then be placed on the wait list or staffed as a crisis with a mental health clinician.
  • Assisting with any walk-in crisis as needed when other professional staff are not available. Identifying the crisis, providing safety measures, and making sure the student is staffed appropriately based on the level of crisis with a mental health clinician.
