The School of Dental Medicine (SDM) has an opening for a Dental Dispensary Technician I or II. Under the direction of the appropriate supervisor, this role is responsible for supporting clinical and preclinical activities by managing and distributing dental supplies, instruments, and equipment. The position plays a critical role in ensuring that students, faculty, and residents have the necessary resources for patient care and laboratory activities, while maintaining accuracy, organization, and proper inventory control.

Key Responsibilities:
Clinic Support – 50% (Essential Function)
- Cleans and decontaminates and provides maintenance of instruments and equipment according to established procedures and techniques.
- Ensures proper functioning of equipment.
- Cleans sanitizing machines and equipment.
- Maintains a level of sterilized instruments for distribution.
- Issues sterile reusable instruments to operatories and clinical units
- Collects used instruments and moves them for sterilization.
- Prepares specialized instruments set-ups for residents, faculty, and undergraduate students to be used during dental patient treatment.
- Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies, equipment, and materials for the clinical area of responsibility.
- Maintains a comprehensive knowledge of dental materials, their use, maintenance, and storage.
- Support the educational mission of the SDM, including role modeling and coaching students how to function as a dental assistant in both four-handed chairside activities and in clinical operations support.

Minimum Qualifications:
Dental Dispensary Technician I:
- One year of dental assisting experience.
- Successful completion of an accredited dental assisting program may substitute one year of experience. NOTE: If exercising the education substitution, applicants MUST attach a copy of their dental assisting certificate to their application materials no later than the closing date listed in the announcement.
- Must possess current valid CPR and/or BLS certification.
- Two years of dental assisting experience.
- Successful completion of an accredited dental assisting program may substitute for one year of experience. NOTE: If exercising the education substitution, applicants MUST attach a copy of their dental assisting certificate to their application materials no later than the closing date listed in the announcement.
- Must possess current valid CPR and/or BLS certification.
- Experience working in a fast-paced dental or orthodontics environment.
- Experience with clinical area preparation in a dental clinic and/or office.
- Experience working with students and faculty in a higher education and/or academic medical environment.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport with a wide variety of individuals.
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
