UConn Health is searching for a Staff Nurse (CNII) to join our team in the John Dempsey Hospital Nephrology Department and may be required to float to the Pulmonary Clinic.
SCHEDULE: Fulltime, 40 hours per week. Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., with a 30 minute unpaid meal break.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Admission to IP units from clinic requiring initial admission assessment/paperwork/bed control/hand off to IP unit/physician/RN
Nursing assessments
Medication administration Epoen
IV starts
Chronic Kidney Disease management
Assist with patient flow/rooming
Outpatient follow care coordination. Maintain surveillance of patient population Xolair and other specialty medication administration including monitoring, scheduling, follow up
Patient teaching including pre-dialysis education.
Pre procedure teaching, education preparation Coordinate with MD's
Nurse visits - ½ hr. visits for BP follow up, medication management - again coordinate with MD's - timely - Injections, flu, etc.
1st line of triage for all calls prior to MD intervention - work with MD, research all issues prior to presenting for resolution by MD
Follow up with patients for lab results, testing results and required follow up - Huge educational component
Critical values reports/monitoring
Committee assignments as required by JCAHO - Med Safety Committee, Med Errors Committee, Shared Governance Circle Committee, Environments Rounds, Infection Control Committee, Patient Satisfaction liaison
Daily equipment monitoring, medical supplies - JCAHO
Direct supervision of MA staff - again this is a hospital based unit that must meet all JCAHO requirements for documentation.
Pre authorization of all specialty medications with insurance companies as well as DME.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES :
Knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing
Knowledge of relevant health center policies and procedures
Excellent demonstrated interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills
Proven ability to establish priorities and manage effectively.
REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates must possess and maintain or be eligible for a current RN license in the State of CT; graduation from an accredited nursing program.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Qualified applicants will have at least 2 years of Registered Nurse experience in either acute care or an outpatient/ambulatory clinic.
Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification for healthcare providers. This is the only accepted credential.
Other CPR/AED credentials may be accepted at hire but incumbents will be required to obtain American Heart Association (AHA) BLS & ACLS certification within six (6) months of hire and maintain throughout employment.
PREFERRED:
Critical Care experience - specifically as related to Dialysis and Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
EPIC experience
FULL TIME EQUIVALENT SALARY MINIMUM : $82,576 (more based on experience)
