Duties and Responsibilities
(NOTE: ** Denotes Essential Functions)
- **Assists the Coordinator with the development, implementation, and evaluation of the programs and services offered by the Native Hawaiian Center at Puuloa.
- **Provides daily on site coordination and supervision of the operations including facility and staff scheduling, resource management, budget management, student engagement, and data systems.
- **Provides supervision of employees involved in operations of the facility to include student employees (ex. recruitment/retention, peer mentor, etc.).
- **Develops, implements, and improves practices and procedures for facility usage, inventory controls, student assistant training, data collection, and budget management.
- **Using the College’s Internet based data systems, collects student enrollment management and program enrollment data and prepares reports that summarize the programs’ effectiveness.
- **Using the College’s Internet based systems, submits financial management, procurement, facilities maintenance/usage, data requests, and appointment scheduling forms.
- **Prepares, submits, and manages fiscal documents in order to procure goods and services.
- Assists the Coordinator with budget reconciliation and projection activities for the program.
- **Designs, plans, implements, and evaluates a robust student assistant program that increases paraprofessional skills, peer engagement, and student success outcomes.
- **Designs, plans, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive on-going student assistant training program which includes, but is not limited to: financial aid and scholarship application assistance, offering facility tours, promoting programs/services, admissions and graduation assistance, on-site resource usage (e.g. laptop borrowing, reference library books, and program enrollment), and public relations.
- **Develop and maintain public relations and communication strategies by planning, designing, and developing program’s website, social media, print materials, and e-mail listservs consistent with the program and College’s branding standards.
- **Develops and maintains effective communication and relationships with Leeward’s Native Hawaiian prospective, new, continuing, graduating/transferring students, alumni, K-12 schools, and community partners.
- **Develops and maintains effective relationships with Leeward’s faculty, staff, and administrators in order to facilitate increased student success outcomes for program participants.
- **Coordinates and arranges program events both on- and off-campus, periodically evenings and weekends, to include but not limited to setting up and breaking down of tables and chairs, coolers, etc., and transporting of equipment, etc.
- As appropriate, integrates Native Hawaiian cultural traditions, language, and practices into Kipuka programs and services.
- **Attends meetings on and off campus representing the Native Hawaiian Center at Puuloa.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Business, Education, Social Sciences, or Arts & Humanities and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for educational support; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
- Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the support of educational programs as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
- Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with education.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
- For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations that include at-risk socio economically disadvantaged, underrepresented, and/or non-traditional students.
- Demonstrated experience working with the Native Hawaiian culture, practices, language, protocols, and community.
- Demonstrated understanding of and/or experience with the University's mission, as it relates to becoming a leading indigenous-serving higher education institution.
- Ability to analyze, interpret, and apply financial and general administrative rules and regulations to a variety of work situations.
- Experience with computerized financial systems and fiscal management software.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain information using spreadsheet software such as Excel.
- Demonstrated ability to extract data, analyze, and create reports.
- Ability to work outside normally scheduled work hours including nights and weekends as required.
Desirable Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Business, Education, Social Sciences, or Arts & Humanities
- Experience working with Native Hawaiians in higher education
- Demonstrated knowledge of Leeward’s academic programs and student support services and campus resources
- Working familiarity with Native Hawaiian communities, agencies, and organizations
