**** Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawaii may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

To work on special project: “MINAMATA” FILM SHOWING AT ASSOCIATION FOR ASIAN STUDIES CONFERENCE 2022. To begin as soon as 03/11/2022, for up to two months, but may end sooner, dependent on availability of funding and program need. Must be available to work during office business hours M-F, 7:45am to 4:30pm. Expected total number of hours: not to exceed 90 hours.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Gather information on the historical event Minamata and its environmental pollution.
Write up this information as an educational document for high school students in conjunction with showing of film “Minamata” at the Annual Conference of the Association for Asian Studies.
Work with high school counselors to coordinate high school students’ visit to Association for Asian Studies Conference (3/24-27/2022) specifically to view film and participate in the discussion.
Preview film “Minamata” and co-author film review to be published in online format with Association for Asian Studies.
Co-present the roundtable discussion of “Minamata” film on 3/26/2022.
Follow-up “Minamata” screening with assessment of the event.
Write a summary and assessment of event for Association for Asian Studies and Luce Foundation.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Anthropology.
Minimum 3 years full-time work experience in Anthropology, or other relevant field.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, gather information, process information, write general audience-level informational piece.
Working knowledge of Japanese contemporary history.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Desirable Qualifications
PhD level expertise and writing skills.
Prior knowledge of “Minamata” through personal research and interest.
Japanese language ability: conversational skills.
Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
