The Papahana Wailau Ola pathway is a fully online transfer student support program at the University of Hawai'i - West O'ahu. This program is unique as it embraces olelo, nohona, and 'ike Hawai'i to foster a holistic approach in providing student services grounded in Native Hawaiian values and principles. Papahana Wailau Ola is committed to building upon cohort students' understanding and connection to Hawaiian culture through culturally relevant workshops and enrichment opportunities. Program students will have access to mentoring, tutoring, and academic support services solely online in addition to their fully online distance education academic degree program.

The summer programming is meant to support students' smooth transition into the university, and better prepare them for their first semester this coming fall. Those applying to this position will be teaching an assigned course under the Humanities division while also working with the Wailau Ola program advisor to ensure student success.
Salary Information: Minimum for Academic Year 2023-2024, $1,820 per credit hour, commensurate with education and experience.
Duration of Assignment: July 1, 2024 to August 9, 2024

Other Conditions:
- For lecturer applicant pool, part-time, pending availability of grant funds and actual staffing requirements. Courses may be taught during the day, evening, weekend, or online.
- Teach assigned 6-week summer course for History.
- Work with Wailau Ola advisor to ensure student success by providing updates on student progress, areas of concern, and any suggestions on further needs for program support.
- Maintain a minimum of one office hour per week for each course taught.
- Prepare course syllabi and reports related to teaching and student progress.
- Work under supervision of the division chair to integrate teaching efforts with other instructors within and across the discipline area.
- As needed, work with multimedia presentations, distance education instruction, and teaching at off-campus sites.
- Master's Degree in History or relevant discipline in History.
- Demonstrated teaching effectiveness.
- Experience teaching online synchronously/asynchronously.
- Knowledge of Native Hawaiian and/or Indigenous ways of knowing.
- College teaching experience.
- Experience working with Title III grants.
