Duties and Responsibilities

1.*Develops a comprehensive community development program that creates an environment conducive to academic, personal and social growth.

2.Transitions new students and families to the college experience.

3.*Advises residents and staff on social, behavioral and academic concerns & initiates appropriate referrals.

4.*Advises student groups and organizations and provides support to elected hall student leaders. Monitors organization fiscal behavior and ensures compliance with University and Housing purchasing procedures.

5.*Provides support and referral to students in crisis. Maintains collaborative relationships with offices outside housing that serve to meet student needs (Counselors-In Residence, CSDC, etc.).

6.*Assesses staff and student needs, researches and presents developmental workshops. Oversees the educational programming efforts of staff working in the hall/ complex.

7.*Encourages students to develop a sensitivity to, and appreciation of, differences.

8.*Actively support, develop and manage departmental academic initiatives including Learning Communities, academic skill improvement and student-faculty interaction opportunities.

9.*Coordinates building staff in implementing procedures to assure safety of residents and security of buildings including fire safety and emergency evacuation procedures.

10.*Attends and participates in area or system meetings or sponsored events.

11.Assists in development of area and system procedures and policy recommendations.

12.*Maintains regular office hours. Office hours are a balance of regular working day responsibilities and evening responsibilities (meetings, attending community events, maintaining community visibility, etc.).

13.Assists with special projects as assigned by Student Affairs, Student Housing Services and Residence Life.

14.Serves on committees and planning groups as requested.

15.*Actively participates in professional training and development.

16.Respond to emergencies and crises.

17.Orientation and Recruitment Programs: On the University and Housing level, assists in the development, implementation and participation in various programs for potential and new students/residents.

18.*Assists with selection, placement, and training of student staff.

19.*Staff Training: Assists the Educational Development Officer in developing and implementing a systemwide comprehensive orientation/training and education program for hall staff; participates in pre- and in-service training.

20.*Supervises and evaluates student staff; supervises residence hall desk(s) and building security operations.

21.*Provides training and supervision of the hall staff in the behavior response process.

22.*Regularly monitors facilities, furnishings and building equipment. Collaborates with maintenance and housekeeping to assure that health and safety standards are met.

23.*Works with maintenance staff and Operations staff on the security & maintenance of the halls.

24.*Review incidents involving violations of Housing & University rules and regulations. Gathers info and doc; adjudicates behavioral meetings for Housing-related violations; coordinate crisis interventions in hall complex. Forwards cases as appropriate to the Housing Judicial Officer for investigating and decision making.

25.*Oversees hall staff in the prep of halls for opening/closing. Collaborates with housekeeping, maintenance and housing assignments to ensure building and student rooms are prepared for occupancy. Trains staff in proper administer protocols for occupancy, key management, payroll and timely paperwork completion.

26.*Assists housing administrative and support offices with assessing student needs, preferences and interests.

27.*Prepares correspondence and reports and maintains appropriate hall records as required or requested.

28.*Processes any grievances, appeals and exceptions for the complex.

29.*Informs and explains behavioral expectations to staff and students and influences the development of responsible behavior. Confronts & discusses behavioral issues with students and identifies necessary changes.

30.*Serves as Administrator On-Call. In addition to being on-call during regular office hours, this position is responsible for immediate response to residential community issues and emergencies during evening and weekend hours.

31.*Administrator On-Call responsibilities require carrying and responding to a cell phone, living in campus housing and dining on campus to ensure immediate response to issues and emergencies.

32.Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

1.Possession of a baccalaureate degree in a major or discipline from an accredited college or university and 0 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for the management of student residence halls or comparable group; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.

2.Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in assigned specialty areas demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology.

3.Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with work specialty.

4.Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the residence halls.

5.Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

6.Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.

7.Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software and spreadsheet applications.

8.Experience working directly with college students in a higher education setting in a formal capacity or role.

9.Ability to understand the commitment to the educational and student development objectives of Student Housing Services.

10.Ability to plan, direct and supervise the activities of a variety of part-time employees.

11.Considerable knowledge of post-secondary educational institutions and student housing/residential life policies and procedures.

12.Considerable knowledge of student activities programs.

13.Able to work independently, able to organize, set priorities and make decisions under pressure.

14.Considerable knowledge of general administrative principles and practices.

15.Ability to cooperatively work with diverse cultures and backgrounds including various segments of the university, community organizations and residents. Knowledge of group living needs, current student value systems and student personnel practices.

16.Ability to use computer spreadsheet applications.


Desirable Qualifications

1.Possession of master's degree in college student personnel, higher education, counseling or related fields and full-time or graduate residence life experience.

2.Considerable knowledge of post secondary educational institute and student housing/residential life theories.

3.Experience with Microsoft Windows applications.
