Job Description

The School of Nursing at the University of Indianapolis is seeking candidates to expand its pool of undergraduate nursing clinical adjunct instructors who could provide nursing laboratory or hospital and nursing home clinical teaching to nursing students. Adjunct instructor positions are available in the undergraduate programs and may be for evening or daytime positions. Applicants submitting applications are applying to be part of the pool of undergraduate nursing clinical adjunct instructors. Applications may be reviewed periodically based on student enrollment needs. These are contracted positions and used based on current nursing enrollment and need.

Please note that this position is part-time/as needed or temporary.


REQUIREMENTS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience: Must have at least eighteen (18) months of experience as a registered nurse (RN); Evidence of expertise appropriate to teaching specialty area (i.e.: Fundamental nursing skills, Peds, OB, Psych, Geriatric, Critical Care, Med-Surg); Clinical experience necessary to function effectively and safely in the area of assigned responsibility; Prior college or university teaching experience preferred; Ability to meet health credentials requirements if teaching in clinical settings.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in nursing required; Master’s degree in nursing preferred.

Licenses/Certifications/Credentials: Criminal history and background check clearance, evidence of current American Heart Association CPR training, and a current unencumbered and valid RN license in the state of Indiana or nursing license compact state.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Up to and no more than 10 students in a clinical group.


Primary Duties:

  • Instruct and evaluate students in either a nursing laboratory or clinical setting.
  • Attend required clinical agency orientation, if applicable.
  • Supervise and maintain laboratories and equipment if teaching in the nursing lab.
  • Attend workshops on D2L (Brightspace) if applicable to clinical course.
  • Attend Department of Nursing adjunct orientation before the start of each semester or as required.
  • Evaluate student learning in a clinical setting using a standard evaluation tool provided by the School of Nursing.
  • Adhere to School of Nursing policies and procedures as outlined in the nursing student and faculty handbooks.
  • Participate in end of course program reports and evaluations with the course lead faculty.
  • Follow the guidance and direction of course lead faculty and/or supervisor(s).
  • Demonstrate respectful, ethical, responsible behavior.
  • Abide by the University’s policies, procedures, and rules.
  • Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
  • Other duties, including special projects, as required or assigned.
