This position will be 100% onsite.
The University of Kansas Cancer Center is the only National Cancer Institute designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in the region, 1 of only 57 in the nation to receive this distinction. Patients gain access to the most promising therapies, cutting-edge clinical trials and world class research.
Required Qualifications
Education: Minimum bachelor’s degree in a laboratory science field such as biology, microbiology, physiology, chemistry, genetics or relevant work experience as a cytotechnologist.
Work Experience: Experience working with human tissue samples.
Preferred Qualifications
Work Experience:

A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.

Work Experience:
- Experience in tissue collection and processing for cytopathology and immunohistochemistry.
- Experience with immunoassay of sera and tissue samples.
- Competent in DNA and RNA isolation and PCR.
- Familiar with cell culture and maintenance of cell lines.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Professional, punctual, and self-motivated in unstructured environment.
- Excellent time-management skills and attention to detail and documentation.
- Computer literate can work with medical records.
- Work closely with Breast Cancer prevention Center Clinical Research personnel before and after sample collection and with Breast Cancer Prevention Laboratory during sample processing
- Process specimens acquired by random periareolar fine needle aspiration to:
- Cryopreservation for later molecular analysis primarily for RTqPCR.
- Slides for cytologic morphology and Ki-67 assessment.
- Paraffin blocks for immunocytochemical and potential Nanostring assessment of gene expression
- Stain slides and perform cytopathologic assessment and morphology score.
- Stain and assess slides for Ki-67
- Stain slides for immunocytochemistry and conduct quantitative assessment.
