Statement of the job

The Workforce Development Specialist is responsible for providing and coordinating workforce and asset development training, advising/coaching, and support to individuals in work/life transition, including unemployed and underemployed workers, adult learners, single parents, displaced homemakers, and other target populations, and for developing and maintaining resources and organizational partnerships that contribute to workforce and asset development. The position also involves working as a team with other local and statewide workforce and asset staff, interacting with community resources including education, training and employment programs, financial institutions, businesses, and social service agencies. This position involves working as a team with statewide New Ventures Maine (NVME) and University staff, developing and maintaining resources and organizational partnerships that contribute to employment success.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience and knowledge of group process, training, coaching, and adult learning theory and practice.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in a related field (Adult and Higher Education, Career Development and Advising, Human Resource Development).
  • One or more years of experience in career and financial education.
  • Understanding of education and economic development that contributes to economic security and addresses gender, racial, and other equity issues.
  • Experience in computer applications, mobile technologies, and distance learning.

Salary: The normal hiring salary range for this position is in the mid-40's and is commensurate with training, education, and experience and will take into consideration the salary of current UMS employees for transfer/promotion.
