Job Description

General Purpose of Job:

To maintain patient records and information in accordance with HIPAA rules. To assure accurate noting of physician orders during the patient hospital stay. To maintain a well supplied and orderly nurses station. To help maintain the workflow especially through periods of process change. To constantly interact with the public and co-workers in a proactive manner with a goal of patient satisfaction.

Essential Duties

This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Associates may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.

• Able to establish good rapport with people, co-workers and general public.
• Maintains professional demeanor and appearance.
• Maintains competency by keeping computer skills current.
• Follows policies and procedures when noting orders and handling the medical record.
• Accurately notes physician's orders and correctly uses order entry computer program.
• Consistently verifies patient identification on all medical records, with computer entries and while faxing materials.
• Responsible to maintain an organized nursing station with adequate supplies.
• Uses good phone etiquette and follows through with requests.
• Responsible for maintaining complete patient medical records during admission, transfer and/or discharge. Able to arrange physician consults and ambulance transfers.
• Assists co-workers by obtaining items from other departments when necessary and delivering occasional specimen to lab.
• Interacts appropriately with patients to obtain vital signs. Demonstrates knowledge of normal vital sign parameters and is to variances from normal patient appearances. Promptly reports pertinent findings to licensed professional nurse.
• Includes patient and family input as appropriate while providing assistance with ADL and other basic care needs. Assures patient's privacy and comfort while providing care. Answers call lights promptly, follow through with patient needs.
• Washes hands when entering and leaving patient's room and demonstrates proper infection control measures at all times. Follows universal precautions.
• Maintain patient safety. Reports unsafe or hazardous conditions promptly. Uses equipment correctly including proper cleaning and storage. Good understanding of emergency procedures at ICMH, i.e. Code Red, Code Blue.
• Monitors patient's needs with regular rounds. Able to establish good rapport with patients. Maintains professional demeanor and appearance.
• Maintains clinical competency by keeping BLS current and regular attendance at hospital educational offerings.
  
  

Job Requirements

General Requirements

• BLS Certification
• CENA State Certification
  
  

Work Experience

• Minimum of one year secretary experience preferred
• CENA experience preferred
  
  

Education High School Diploma or GED

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

• Demonstrate computer skills including word processing, spread sheets
• Excellent verbal and communication skills
