Job Summary

The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts and the Department of Curriculum Support at the University of Michigan invite applications for an Adjunct Lecturer position at 11.11% effort starting in the Winter term 2026, which involves teaching ALA 380: Let's Talk Undergraduate Research: Communicating Scholarly Inquiry Within Academia and Beyond. Students enrolled in ALA 380 can earn anywhere from 1- 4 credits. This position is in conjunction with the administrative appointment of Associate Director of UROP Research Mentor Engagement. This appointment is scheduled to begin on January 1, 2026, with classes beginning January 7, 2026.

Responsibilities*

Duties of the ALA 380/Adjunct Lecturer position include teaching, ongoing development of course curriculum, developing course materials, evaluating and grading students, and supervising 3-4 UROP/ALA 380 course peer facilitators.

Course Title(s): Let's Talk Undergraduate Research: Communicating scholarly inquiry within academia and beyond

Course Objectives: Develop capacities to successfully translate research skills to other professional settings, disseminate research findings through multiple media, and develop skills for independent research success outside UROP. Students will be able to:

  • Further develop practical research experience by taking a leading role on a faculty research project (2) Develop an understanding and practice of peer review, research design, and scientific/academic writing/communication specific to their discipline (3) Learn the knowledge and skills so student may: identify appropriate publications and national conferences, submit academic writing and presentation proposals while building capacities to articulate their research experience to varying audiences and translate them in varying professional settings.


Required Qualifications*

  • Master's degree in Higher Education or related field
  • 3-5 years' experience working in an academic student setting.
  • Minimum of two years' experience as instructor-of-record, including experience teaching courses inclusive of culturally, economically, and ethnically diverse populations.
  • Experience working with a diverse student population, and a demonstrated commitment to student retention and success.
  • Demonstrated experience with curriculum development, including experience working with faculty.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting research and an understanding of the research process.
  • Enthusiasm for working with undergraduate students and demonstrated commitment to meeting their information and research needs
  • Commitment to engaging students in research and scholarly work.


Desired Qualifications*

  • Doctorate degree in Higher Education (or in a related field)
  • Expertise in college-level teaching, with demonstrated experience leading interactive and experiential classroom methods (or experience creating, leading, or managing student programming, instruction directly related to undergraduate research). Preference will be given to candidates with experience in peer mentoring, academic counseling and advising, and student supervision.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
