Responsibilities*

Responsibilities include quality control and patient testing using automated and manual methods, blood component testing and preparation as well as blood component issue. The technologist will perform refrigerator rounds in 3 hospitals. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of good manufacturing practices and possess excellent customer service skills.

Required Qualifications*

In order to be considered for this position the applicant must have met or will have met all the required qualifications prior to the start date of employment.

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or biological science is required or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated successful clinical experience as well as certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist or the ability to be certified by BOC.
  • Must have the demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, concisely and effectively with other medical personnel in both verbal and written form.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently organize and prioritize work and to exercise initiative in recognizing and solving problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse team.


Desired Qualifications*

Previous experience in Blood Banking is desirable.

Work Schedule

This full time, 40-hour position will be on the midnight shift, 4-10 shifts, 9:30 pm to 7:30 am, and requires rotating weekends, holidays and on-call with other staff.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
