Job Description

Nature of Work:
The Department of Nutrition and Exercise Physiology is seeking a motivated individual who is passionate about research to be part of a research team conducting human feeding research on diets' effects on metabolic health outcomes.

Essential Functions:
The Research Coordinator assists in ongoing research projects in the laboratory in a variety of settings. This staff member will be part of a research team conducting human feeding interventional studies in the area of nutrition and control of food intake to improve metabolic health. In general, the work will include the day-to-day operation of the laboratory, participant recruitment (e.g. calling and screening potential research participants for ongoing studies), data collection (e.g. collection of neuroimaging data, processing of human specimens, administering dietary behavioral questionnaires, taking anthropometric measurements), data management and clerical work to support ongoing research studies (e.g. data entry into spreadsheets, backing up computer data files), inventory taking/ ordering of lab supplies. Research will be conducted in clinical facilities at the University of Missouri..

Responsibilities:
-Measure anthropometrics, process blood and tissue samples
-Collect and record research data
-Assist in research participant recruitment such calling participants on phone to telephone screen
-Assists with scheduling of research participants for study visits
-Collect neuroimaging data
-Perform laboratory biochemical assays to measure the concentrations of metabolites in human samples such as glucose, appetite hormones and blood lipids.
- Assemble and pack research diets for out-patient and in-patient consumption.
-Perform data entry
- Assist in upkeep of laboratory equipment (stocking supplies, doing dishes, maintaining overall cleanliness).
-Coordinate schedules of students and other lab staff to ensure efficient workflow
-Prepare summaries and document progress to meet short-term and long-term objective

-Assists in graduate and undergraduate student trainings

Supervision Received: Works under general supervision and within procedures and guidelines.

Supervision Exercised: May provide task/activity-level director to others
with less experience.

Shift

40 hours per week. Some nights and weekends may be necessary depending on study needs and will be accommodated with a flexible schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Nutrition Science or related field (example Biological Sciences, Biochemistry) will be strongly considered. Previous experience working in a research lab setting especially focused on human subjects' research is highly preferred but not required. Detail-oriented and ability to multi-task; able to work independently and also as part of a team, good organizational skills and able to take initiative as needed, strong written and oral communication skills; proficient in the use of basic computer software such as Microsoft Excel and Word; Proactive, fast learner and works with little supervision once trained.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $12.36-$22.10 per hour

Grade: GGS-005
