OFFICIAL TITLE: Laborer Supervisor - Facilities Services
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Provides and supervises Facilities Services Laborer Division for the University of New Haven. Primary function is to supervise laborer staff in daily operations and provide support for custodial services as needed. The Supervisor of Facilities Services Laborer Division is responsible for scheduling and assigning work to all laborers and will assure all shift responsibilities are achieved in a complete, safe and timely fashion. The Supervisor of Facilities Laborer Services is responsible for ensuring all staff members work safely at all times and ensures operating procedures are in place, current and followed to meet all regulatory requirements, including OSHA, DEEP, EPA, Heath Code , etc. The Supervisor of Facilities Services recommends process improvements to ensure their department is following current best practices and recommends new equipment and product purchases to achieve this. They must have excellent written and verbal communications skills and be a strong team player.
The Supervisor of Facilities Services Laborer Division must be available for weekend coverage on a rotating basis.

CORE DUTIES:
- Responsible for the planning and scheduling of laborers to accomplish all assigned shift assignments and responsibilities in a professional manner.
- Oversees and coordinates the laborer staffing and set-up of events in all levels of magnitude.
- Responsible for coordinating and implementing furniture moves in collaboration with other departments, supervisors, and building occupants. Must maintain accurate records of all furniture, incoming, damaged, repaired and any removed from inventory. This includes an annual update to inventory records of furniture stored with our external vendors.
- Responsible for ensuring that their assigned staff operate in a safe and efficient manner and are in compliance with all applicable rules and regulations, including OSHA, environmental, safety and security. Assures all shift employees are current in all required safety and skills training and provides weekly safety training to ensure best practices.
- Responsible for adjusting all staff to attend to emergency needs as necessary and maintaining laborer related equipment required to support emergencies.
- Responsible for the coordination of actions necessary to address weather related emergencies.
- Assures all staff has necessary equipment and supplies on hand to perform work.
- Maintains equipment inventory, responsible for inspecting, delivering and returning equipment for custodial services through the inventory system in coordination with each Custodial Services Supervisor.
- Identifies opportunities to improve department performance and processes in all areas of responsibility and identifies the need to purchase new equipment and spare parts to maintain an efficient operation.
- Schedules overtime, when necessary, in accordance with the union contract.
- Responsible for shift record keeping including disciplinary reports, overtime records and vacation, personal and sick time tracking.
- Responsible for providing support to the Custodial Supervisors during events.
- Responsible for providing assistance to custodial staff supervision if needed.
- Works closely with the University of New Haven maintenance department, customers at various levels within the organization, outside venders and contract service providers.
- At times will be involved in implementing new processes and methods, as directed by their manager and responsible for completing all tasks as directed.
EXPERIENCE:
Must have a college degree and 2 years supervisory experience or 8 years of progressive facilities related leadership responsibilities. The Supervisor of Facilities Services Laborer Division will routinely be working with managers, supervisors, faculty, staff, bargaining unit employees and contractors. This person will have regular contact with management at levels including director and above.
SKILLS:
The Supervisor of Facilities Services Laborer Division requires working knowledge of laborer responsibilities, events, minor maintenance operations, standard cleaning procedures, and cleaning chemicals, products and equipment.
The Supervisor of Facilities Services Laborer Division must solve problems associated with providing complete day-to-day campus services. These services must be provided in such a manner to allow the various departments and groups to optimize their facilities and operating schedules. The position requires initiative and self-motivation in order to identify problems accurately and develop solutions using creativity and good judgment.
The Supervisor of Facilities Services Laborer Division must determine how to best utilize staff members and make effective use of outside contractors for laborer services in lieu of plant personnel as necessary.
The overall accountability for this position is to provide high quality and efficient facilities for students, staff and faculty. Safety and customer service is of prime importance and the Supervisor of Facilities Services must closely monitor accident trends to identify unsafe conditions and/or safety violations and report and correct as necessary.
Salary : $65,800 - $83,300
