Position Summary

The Center for Development and Disability (CDD), established in 1990, is New Mexico's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service. These centers, authorized by the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act, build the capacities of states and communities to respond to the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

CDD’s Family and Community Partnership Division is seeking a student to provide support for library operations.  This position requires approximately 20 hours per week during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.  This is intended to be long-term employment for a student while attending UNM.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal will be required. Administrative work experience within UNM or in other administrative positions entailing heavy use of Microsoft Office Suite is preferred. The person hired would assist patrons of the library, that are primarily people with disabilities and their families, in finding library materials and disability resources through the library’s collection; as well as respond to emails, answer telephone calls, shelve books/DVDs/videos, manage eBook platforms, teach patrons to use eBooks, process overdue items, assist in weeding library materials and help walk-in patrons with check-in and check-out of books.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally utilizing advanced written and verbal skills for in-person, phone or email communications.

Skillful and experience working with computers and software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Skill and expertise in entering data into various platforms and information gathering via internet research.

Ability to

  • work independently to accomplish program goals;
  • organize time and prioritize task requests effectively;
  • greet and interact appropriately with families, professionals and persons with disabilities;
  • quickly adapt to working with categorizing, organizing and shelving books, as well as cataloging materials;
  • recognize disclosures of sensitive or private information and maintain confidentiality.
