Position Overview
The Programmer position is an entry-level technical role responsible for providing programming, application support, and analytical assistance within the Finance Information Systems Team. This position plays a key role in maintaining the stability and functionality of the organization's PeopleSoft Financials environment by performing routine development tasks and supporting system enhancements under the guidance of senior team members.
The primary purpose of this role is to assist in the ongoing maintenance, enhancement, and support of the PeopleSoft Finance system. Core responsibilities include developing or modifying application code, retrofitting or removing customizations in response to Oracle release updates, creating and supporting integrations to other internal or external software applications, participating in functional and technical testing efforts, and researching or troubleshooting customer-reported issues. The Programmer collaborates with senior developers, functional analysts, and end users to ensure system reliability and alignment with business needs.
This role provides an excellent opportunity for earlycareer programmers to build technical proficiency in PeopleSoft development tools-such as PeopleCode, Application Designer, SQR, SQL, and Application Engine-while gaining hands-on experience supporting enterprise financial systems. The Programmer is expected to demonstrate curiosity, strong problemsolving skills, and a willingness to learn and grow within a collaborative team environment.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or four years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Knowledge of the methods and equipment used in electronic data processing.
* Skill in writing programs for computer applications.
* Ability to analyze problems and develop solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
* Strong SQL skills using Oracle or another major relational database platform.
* Introductory programming knowledge in languages such as C , Java, or PeopleCode.
* Exposure to ERP systems such as PeopleSoft, Workday, SAP, Banner, or similar applications.
* Familiarity with Finance business processes such as Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), General Ledger (GL), Budgets, Billing, or Asset Management.
*Coursework or practical experience in Accounting, Procurement, Financial Operations, or other business administration functions.
* Experience in a Higher Education environment or other large, complex organizations.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with business users and IT teams.
* Exposure to tools or concepts such as PeopleSoft Query, SQL Developer, data validation, Agile methodologies, or system testing is a plus.
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Job Duties
- Assist in maintaining PeopleSoft Finance applications by performing routine programming tasks and applying updates under guidance.
- Develop and modify application code for enhancements and bug fixes using approved tools and standards.
- Support system testing and troubleshooting, including identifying issues, documenting findings, and implementing approved solutions under supervision.
- Assist with scheduled upgrades and patches under the direction of senior team members to ensure compliance with organizational and vendor requirements.
- Create and/or maintain technical documentation for assigned tasks, including code changes and process workflows.
- Provide initial end-user support for PeopleSoft Finance-related inquiries and escalate complex issues to senior staff as needed.
- Track and update task status in the Service Management System.
- Participate in the scheduled On-Call Support Rotation in a mentored capacity.
- Accurately record time for assigned projects and tasks.
