Department Summary

The Computer and Information Science Department in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Oregon offers BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees in Computer and Information Science; instruction is provided by 16 tenure track faculty, 2 emeritus faculty, and 6 career instructor faculty. The department serves approximately 600 undergraduate and 90 graduate majors and offers a number of general education classes in the discipline. The primary research foci of the tenure track faculty are high-performance computing, data science, networking, and distributed systems with cross-cutting concerns of security and privacy.

Position Summary

The selected applicant for this position will work as a postdoctoral fellow in the NSF Industry/University Collaborative Research Center for Big Learning (CBL) at the University of Oregon that aims to design novel algorithms and develop efficient systems for deep learning applications in the era of big data. CBL catalyzes the diverse expertise of faculty members, students, industry partners, and federal agencies to create state-of-the-art deep learning methodologies, technologies, and applications across broad domains of business, healthcare, and Internet-of-Things. The postdoctoral fellow will conduct cutting-edge research in an area of artificial intelligence and data science, (e.g., natural language processing, computer vision, machine learning), support the management of CBL, and contribute to grant proposals to different agencies. The postdoctoral fellow will work closely with Prof. Dejing Dou and Prof. Thien Huu Nguyen (the directors of CBL) as well as other faculty and students in the Computer and Information Science Department.

Minimum Requirements

Successful postdoctoral applicants must have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field with a strong record of publication.

Preferred Qualifications

This is a mentored research position and the postdoctoral fellow will be advised by Prof. Dejing Dou and Prof. Thien Huu Nguyen in CBL. Preference will be given to applicants that have research experience in natural language processing, deep learning, machine learning, and/or their applications to the biomedical domain. These are active research areas in CBL.
