What are the responsibilities and job description for the Postdoctoral Researcher position at University of Pennsylvania?
We are seeking a creative and self-motivated postdoctoral researcher interested in studying the factors that contribute to inter-individual variability in the analgesic response to NSAIDs. The project seeks to identify the factors that contribute to the need for supplemental opioid after third molar (wisdom tooth) extraction and identify biomarkers that are predictive of analgesic response to NSAIDs. The ultimate goal of this work is to enable development and testing of a treatment algorithm that can be incorporated into clinical care to facilitate a precision medicine approach to pain management.
Responsibilities
The postdoctoral researcher will work closely with the PI (Dr. Theken) and other members of the study team. They will receive training in clinical research, immunology, and/or transcriptomics as needed and will be expected to independently develop or learn relevant new techniques as required by the project. Opportunities for professional development (grant writing, review writing, collaborations, conferences, etc.) will be encouraged and supported. Salary and benefit information and information about postdoctoral policies at Penn are outlined on the Biomedical Postdoctoral Programs website (https://www.med.upenn.edu/postdoc).
Qualifications
A PhD in a biological science (pharmacology/pharmaceutical sciences, molecular biology, immunology, physiology, genomics, etc.), with demonstration of successful completion of thesis project. Experience in clinical research, flow cytometry, gene expression profiling, and/or pharmacogenomics is highly desirable, but not required. Communication skills (reading, writing, speaking), enthusiasm, good interpersonal skills, and willingness to mentor undergraduate and predoctoral students are essential.
Interested candidates should include a cover letter describing experience and research interests and a CV with their application.
