Position Description

Advertised Job Summary
Under general supervision of the principal investigator (PI), performs experiments related to vascular studies in vitro and in vivo rodent models of hypertension and preeclampsia. Assists with data collection, analysis, and interpretation. Performs biochemical assays and assists with manuscript writing. Presents data at national/international conferences. Contributes new ideas for current and future research projects. Coordinates interactions/collaborations with other laboratories and assists the PI with grants management. Prepares submissions and attains extramural grants on independent research topics. Demonstrates commitment to conducting business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to compliance policies, procedures, and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)
Ph.D. in physiology, biochemistry, biotechnology, life sciences, toxicology, pharmacology, or a closely-related field.

Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. in physiology. Experience with molecular techniques in toxicology and pharmacology related to endothelial and vascular dysfunction, cell culture, expression and purification of proteins. Protein identification by western blot. Handling mouse and rat models. In vivo experimental design. Immunological techniques (in vivo and in vitro) using cell lines. Fluorescence microscopy. Previous experience training undergraduate students

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Vascular reactivity studies using small and large diameter arteries isolated from rats and mice. Rat invasive blood pressure measurement. Western blot and biochemistry and molecular assays. Cell Cultures. Animal handling. Require to conduct business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to compliance policies, procedures, and regulations.
