Position Details
The Academic Advising Office at The University of Tampa has a position available for an Academic Advisor. This position reports to the Director of Academic Advising.
Responsibilities
1. Serve as primary academic advisor for first-year students with a caseload of ~350-450 students; assist students with identifying academic goals and degree progression, and refer to
appropriate campus resources as applicable.
2. Teach one first-year experience (BAC) course each semester (fall and spring).
3. Provide general information to undergraduate students and faculty/staff about academic-related issues, such as graduation requirements, academic policies/procedures, course planning, and
registration.
4. Assist with registration and advising for new first-year students and transfer students.
5. Provide information to students through drop-in advising, individual appointments(face-to-face and virtual), group sessions, and email.
6. Participate in Academic Success Center workshops, group presentations, and other university events.
7. Contribute to student success and retention initiatives.
8. Serve as resource for faculty advisors and other academic units to provide current policies and procedures as well as advising information and assist with training sessions for faculty
advisors.
9. Assist with degree audit reviews.
10. Represent the Academic Success Center at specific recruiting and committee functions (some events may be scheduled evenings or weekends on occasion).
11. Maintain advising records and utilize UT information systems to support delivery of advising services.
12. Work on special projects as assigned by the Director.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.
14. Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.
Qualifications
1. Master's degree required.
2. Previous experience in a post-secondary academic setting with experience in advising and knowledge of university curriculum, programs, polices, and procedures.
3. Excellent interpersonal, oral, written communication and computer skills (MS programs).
4. Ability to maintain a positive and objective approach when confronted with difficult situations.
5. Ability to prioritize well and focus on completion of tasks and objectives.
6. Strong customer service skills, along with the ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of students, faculty, administrators and staff.
7. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage time, maintain confidentiality and adhere to FERPA guidelines.
8. Knowledge of or the ability to learn quickly The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday, Microsoft Office, Navigate.
9. Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.
Preferred Qualifications
1. 2 or more years academic advising experience in a college or university setting.
2. Experience working with special populations and limited access majors.
3. Previous teaching experience.
