Position Details

The Campus Safety Department at The University of Tampa has a position for a qualified Campus Safety Officer on the 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. shift. This position will provide for the safety of students, faculty, staff, visitors, and property through enforcement of University and department policies and procedures. This officer reports to the shift supervisor.

This position is designated as an essential employee and may be required to report to work as scheduled when University offices are closed due to severe weather or other conditions.

Responsibilities
1. Patrol the campus perimeter, buildings and grounds to provide visible deterrent to crime.
2. Maintain building and room security.
3. Respond to crimes and other incidents committed on campus, report on same.
4. Respond to fire, burglary, hold up alarms, and disturbance calls.
5. Control vehicle/pedestrian traffic and enforcing parking regulations on campus.
6. Unlock/lock buildings and rooms when facilities personnel are not available.
7. Respond to requests for information and assistance in a manner that positively represents The University of Tampa.
8. Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.

Qualifications
1. Strong interpersonal skills to build working partnerships with faculty, staff, and students as well as external parties including neighbors/local residents, city officials, municipal/county/state police agencies, local health services, first responders, and members of the media.
2. Ability to de-escalate conflict situations and a demeanor that is perceived as professional yet calm and relaxed.
3. A high level of professional ethics and personal integrity.
4. High school diploma or equivalent.
5. Law enforcement/retired military police experience preferred.
6. Must qualify for Florida Department of State Class "D" and "G" licenses.
7. Must be able to exert appropriate strength when necessary.
8. Ability to climb stairs to the top of a nine story building; make judgment calls while under pressure/duress; carry and use, if necessary, a fire arm under pressure/duress appropriately.
9. Apprehend and detain, if necessary, suspected law violators which may include physical exertion.
10. Excellent clear and concise communication skills required.
11. Must have a valid Florida drivers license.
12. Must successfully pass a personal background, criminal records and psychological check.
13. Experience in using various Security Department equipment (two-way radio, cameras, computers, etc).
15. Experience in a college or university preferred.
16. Knowledge of or the ability to learn quickly The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday and Microsoft Office.
17. Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.

$16.25 per hour ($15.00 $1.25 shift pay)
