The University of Texas at El Paso seeks a lecturer to teach developmental math courses during the day to UTEP students beginning fall 2023. The department focuses on inclusive pedagogy and student support to ensure that students are prepared to succeed in college. Developmental Math ADJUNCT lecturers will be instrumental in facilitating entering students' path towards academic success. Successful ESE lecturers have a genuine commitment to working directly with students, evidenced by experience providing individual student support in academic advising, student success, or other relevant experiences. Employees in this role are expected to:

  • Facilitate Student Learning by one-on-one tutoring, mentoring and coaching students on an individualized basis.
  • Prepare, deliver, and assess learning to students with diverse level of math content knowledge.
  • Provide instruction using technology, specifically ALEKS, educational standards of delivery, and a variety of methods of instruction.
  • Actively engage students in critical thinking, meta-cognitive processes, and interpersonal skills.
  • Identify and implement, as appropriate, innovative pedagogical practices.
  • Infuse multicultural and diverse perspectives into the instructional process as appropriate and conduct classes in a manner that demonstrates respect for individual and cultural differences.
  • Must be able to teach during the work week, Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.

Job Requirements:


A Bachelor's degree is required in Mathematics, Science, or Engineering, along with two years of college teaching or other relevant experience. ESE lecturers are highly motivated instructors with superior interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, excellent presentation skills, and experience successfully integrating technology into curriculum and/or pedagogy. Candidates are highly motivated and dedicated to student success. The candidate must have a proven track record of working in a collaborative team environment. Additionally, the ideal candidate has demonstrated the ability to motivate students at the college level and develop a positive mentoring relationship with diverse student populations.

Preferred Experience:

A Master's degree in Math, Math Education, or Higher Educational Leadership is preferred. College teaching focused on developmental math students, and an understanding of the Texas Success Initiative Assessment, TSIA and how it impacts placement of students into developmental math.


Additional Information:


Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Hiring decisions are subject to final budget approval.
