Professor (with tenure) for Business Law

Position Overview

Organization: School of Law

Title: Professor (with tenure) for Business Law

Position Details

Position Description

The School of Law is hiring one tenured Professor of Law to teach and publish in US and global business law, including Business Organizations and courses in Securities Regulations, Mergers and Acquisitions, Corporate Finance, Bankruptcy, and commercial law, depending on teaching needs.

The individual selected for this position will reinvigorate the business law offerings and anchor the School of Law as a major researcher in corporate and business law. The successful applicant will be expected to engage in consistent scholarly excellence through regular scholarship production, maintaining the School of Law’s national and global reputation in business law. The successful applicant will form external relationships and obtain external funding for related programs.

The faculty member hired for this position will be part of the Global Business Law Institute (GBLI), which positions UW Law at the center of teaching, research, scholarship, policy, and practice relating to global business law. The GBLI builds on UW Law’s strengths in comparative law and international programs, its established global network, and the active involvement of world leaders from the business community. The Institute complements robust programs within the law school — including intellectual property, tax, sustainable international development, and law and entrepreneurship and across the University, thus providing a strong interdisciplinary foundation. The GBLI also benefits from the UW School of Law’s longstanding global network of companies, firms, and universities, as well as Seattle’s vibrant business community with world leaders in global manufacturing, IT, retail, and electronic commerce reflected in the membership of the industry advisory board. GBLI academic programs include: the Global Business Law JD concentration track, which readies students for international and U.S. transactional practice and legal policy work in law firms, industry, and government; the LLM in Global Business Law, which provides international and U.S. lawyers with cutting-edge knowledge and skills in preparation for careers in transactional practice and legal policy work; and the Global Business Law Fellows Program, which provides JD and LLM students with hands-on work experience, networking and mentorship from organizations within the advisory board.

All UW faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

The base salary range for this position will be $17,000 – $24,500 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
