The Department of Laboratory Medicine serves as a regional resource for clinical laboratory services required for patient care, research and educational programs in laboratory medicine. The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology department has an outstanding opportunity for aANATOMIC PATHOLOGY TECHNICIAN (FULL-TIME, DAY-SHIFT)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with Autopsies with minimal supervision by the Autopsy Director or Autopsy Manager:
Assist with the evisceration of body and collect appropriate samples
Clean and prepare body for release to a funeral home
Assist with Photographing or radiographing specimens as directed
Take pager every other week, issue troubleshooting and resolution
Organize, clean and maintain autopsy suite:
Maintain appropriate supplies using Materials Management List
Set up for autopsies, fetal surgical pathology procedures and conferences
Thoroughly clean autopsy area and all instruments following procedures
Flush eye wash stations weekly
Maintain refrigerator and freezer temperatures
Assist with Surgical Pathology:
Maintain comprehensive records of procedures by accessioning patient information
Full responsibility for Cardiac Conference Including:
Photography
grossing rotation
retrieving clinical information from Mindscape
emailing responsible residents/attendings of conference
Maintain Specimen Storage System with minimal supervision by Autopsy Director or Autopsy Manager:
Maintain regular organ discard schedule
Once weekly transport all discard autopsy/surgical tissue to Biostructure for cremation
Prepare stock formalin
After Death Services & Miscellaneous Duties:
Monitor and perform quality control of specimens
Determine disposition of deceased patients/autopsy specimens
Identify problems and take corrective action, notifying supervisor of actions taken
Orient pathology residents
Provide autopsy procedural info to medical staff and new employees
Train new employees in autopsy procedures
Maintain comprehensive records by accessioning patient info into computer & logbook
Prepare specimens for conference
Maintain safe working environment by following all safety regulations
Maintain downstairs morgue
Maintain HMC morgue
Review and create death certificates in the state electronic system
Aid clinicians in using the electronic system to sign death certificates
Discard of finalized cases and what needs to be kept for teaching purposes
Disposition of patients and funeral homes
Scheduling of tasks for Volunteers
Troubleshooting issues while on call during nights and weekends
REQUIREMENTS:
Certified, or certified within two years from the date of hire, at the Technician level by a nationally recognized certifying agency such as the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, the American Society of Clinical Laboratory Scientists or the Microscopy Society of America
OR
equivalent education/experience.
