TITLE: Rehab Mobility Aide
JOB OVERVIEW: A Rehab Mobility Aide performs routine services to support the Rehab team and is under the supervision of a professional PT, OT or SLP.
DEPARTMENT: Rehab Services
WORK HOURS: 7:30 am-6:00 pm Monday-Friday, Saturday/Sunday as needed. On call hours as needed to meet patient needs. Weekend and holiday rotation is expected as part of employment.
REPORTS TO: Rehab Services Director, or designee: Manager or Supervisor
PREREQUISITES:
Must be at least 18 years of age
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Professional appearance
Effective interpersonal skills
BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
Demonstrate ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
Demonstrate ability to communicate and work effectively with the physical, emotional, socioeconomical, and developmental abilities and needs of all age groups, cultural and social backgrounds, and other diversity related contributors
Ability to set priorities and work accurately and let needs be known with limited supervision.
UNIQUE PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS, ENVIRONMENT AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Follow all Safe Patient Handling policies and procedures and have the ability to recognize own limitations with regards to load handling, regularly seek assistance when demand of transfer or lift exceeds individual physical abilities. This position requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Must be able to lift/carry 40 lbs. to complete patient care services.

B. UNIQUE JOB FUNCTIONS:
Environment of Care
Complete EOC rounding of department and treatment areas at regular intervals to check on department and equipment maintenance needs.
Interact appropriately with equipment vendors, gather information on new products and report feedback to Rehab Director or designee.
Responsible for checking and reporting inventory levels (including misplaced or lost items) and ordering of supplies for all clinical areas as assigned.
Responsible for calibration of equipment as assigned.
Fabricate and maintain adaptive equipment as assigned.
Assist with the actual task of getting equipment to the repair source and then make sure it is checked before it goes back into service.
Emergency Management
Participate in identifying risks within team/department and assist /Manager, Director, or designee with developing strategies for emergency preparedness.
Fulfill his/her role during an emergency and continue to provide care, treatment, and services to our patients during the emergency.
Assist with evaluating the Emergency Operations Plan and assist with returning our department/team to normal operations in the event of an emergency.
Human Resources
Assist with volunteer or student instruction and supervision in department tasks as assigned.
Infection Prevention
Follow infection control policies, procedures and protocols with specific department equipment and clinical areas assigned within scope of practice.
Clean equipment according to manufacturer's specifications when applicable.
Contacts departments such as EVS, Biomed and Facilities as needed for safe and effective equipment for patient, staff, and visitor use.
Information Management
Assist with the organization of information from quality improvement projects, supply lists, purchase orders and inventory, vendor catalogs, and other items within the scope of practice to assist the department in the smooth workflow.
Assist in the assembly set-up and inventory of marketing/educational materials and activities as assigned.
Utilize technology for patient care and process improvement, clinical work, and communication with team as appropriate. Technology can include but is not limited to: VMC software, email, Internet, voice mail, etc., to create an efficient environment for teamwork and quality patient care.
Provision of Care, Treatment, and Services
Complete specific patient care tasks under the delegation and instruction of a PT and OT.
Communicate effectively with Rehab team, nursing, and other disciplines regarding patient plan of care
Ability to inform/notify the therapist when/if the patient/client condition or diagnosis changes, or the patient's pain changes, or functional status, and the need for re-assessment/re-evaluation before proceeding with assigned patient care.
Notify/inform the therapist/assistant so further evaluation and treatment can be assessed as appropriate.
Follow all policies and procedures under the direction of the clinicians to perform patient care duties such as set up, assistance to the clinician, and with cleanup of the assigned patient care area.
Assist therapists with scheduling and transporting of patients to and from patient care units for therapy within guidelines of care.
Assist therapists and assistants to provide patients with education materials and/or equipment, and appropriate follow-up information as directed by the clinicians for discharge.
Provide support for therapy staff with set up and cleanup of professional presentations and/or patient/client education in either one-on-one setting or in groups. These educational groups may be conducted on VMC campus or off campus.

Any nausea or emesis.
Any change in level of consciousness or mobility.
Any rash, reddened skin, abrasion, skin tear, bruising,
Any complaint of discomfort or pain.
Any report of dizziness or witnessed patient unsteadiness.
Any problem with patient compliance to care.
Demonstrates safe use of patient care equipment.
