Job Summary:

The human resources leader and subject matter expert for Recreation and Wellbeing mentors a staff 2 two additional human resources professionals. Together, this dynamic trifecta serves our 80 professional staff, 10 professional interns, and 1,000 student hourly appointments.

Under general direction of the Chief Business Officer, this position provides strategy and direction for comprehensive personnel and compensation processes and performs human resource related activities. This position advises departmental representatives on a variety of complex personnel issues relating to recruitment, compensation, layoff/nonrenewal, workforce relations and other general human resource areas. This position is responsible for all phases of various HR issues consistent with University, State and Federal policies, codes and statutes.



Responsibilities:
Assists with the planning, implementation, and management of strategic initiatives for one or more human resources functions such as recruitment, employment relations, performance management, compensation and classification, and payroll and benefits. Implements, operationalizes, and monitors the use of approved policies and procedures and ensures strategy alignment. Audits the program budget, approves unit expenditures, and supervises human resources (HR) staff.
  • 20% Assists with planning, implementation, and management of strategic initiatives for one or more human resources function
  • 20% Audits the unit budget and approves expenditures
  • 20% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • 15% Implements, operationalizes, and monitors the use of policies and procedures to comply with laws, regulations, institutional policies, and unit objectives
  • 5% Identifies needs and recommends improvements to leadership regarding HR matters such as workforce performance and competency gaps, organizational structures, compensation discrepancies and assists with the development of training plans and mitigation strategies as needed
  • 5% Coordinates HR activities, such as recruitment, pay administration programs, new hire orientation, employee benefits, and health and safety plans, through managerial HR staff
  • 15% Serves as an advisor and liaison to unit managers and staff providing organization information and interpretation of human resources policies and procedures

Education:

Required: Bachelor's Degree



Qualifications:

> Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to maintain effective relationships with managers, staff, and campus offices.
> Strength in developing and coaching others, experience supervising preferred
> Sound judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting HR policies and procedures
> Demonstrated leadership with respect to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace, such as developing inclusive recruitment and retention strategies
> Ability to independently prioritize and plan varied and complex tasks
> Subject matter expertise in two or more of the following areas:
> Implementing, operationalizing, and monitoring HR policies and procedures in a higher educational setting
> Navigating employment relations issues
> Resolving conflicts and negotiating with stakeholders
> Providing guidance on conflict resolution
> Managing workplace investigations
> Applying supervisory methods and techniques
> Determining appropriate title and classification
> HR-related information systems
