Job Summary:
The Chazen Museum of Art is looking for art enthusiasts who enjoy talking to strangers to join our team as museum guides. Reporting to the Head of Museum Education, museum guides will lead groups of all ages on museum tours and facilitate interactive discussions with works of art. An outgoing team player, museum guides will also support the Visitor Services department in a light customer service role.
With a permanent collection of more than 23,000 objects, from vessels of ancient Greece to prints by Kara Walker, the Chazen Museum of Art is the second largest museum collection in Wisconsin. Two expansive buildings encompass 163,000 square feet, making it the largest collecting museum in the Big Ten. More than 100,000 visitors come through our doors each year to enjoy the permanent collection and special exhibitions. Admission is free for all and includes programs for students, families and community members, all provided with the museum's unique brand of Wisconsin hospitality.
Responsibilities:
- Work in collaboration with currently enrolled UW-Madison student museum guides to develop and deliver tour content to groups of all ages (40%)
- Conduct light research of the Chazen Museum of Art's collection (10%)
- Speak publicly about art to visitors of all ages and backgrounds (40%)
- Monitor the behavior of tour groups and ensure groups are in compliance with museum rules (5%)
- Support the Visitor Services team and monitor the galleries and/or registration desks as needed (5%)

Work Schedule:
Minimum commitment of five (5) hours per week required.
