We work with New Yorkers of all ages. We infuse a commitment to civic engagement, equity, and communal action into each of our programs, which include early childhood education, mental health and wellness, benefits assistance and eviction prevention, adult literacy and education, healthy aging, community, and recreation centers, performing and visual arts, and youth development.
Early Head Start offers comprehensive child development services, family support services and advocacy to low-income pregnant women and families with children under three years of age. The program provides developmentally appropriate care and home visits to families in the Lower East Side and Brooklyn.
Responsibilities:
- Support lead teachers and assistant teachers to lead classroom sessions
- Support classroom staff on classroom routines, activities, curriculum and transitions to ensure the health and safety of children
- Create a positive and engaging learning environment appropriate to their developmental needs and interests
- Ensure the safety of all children by actively supervising the children by both sight and sound .
- Communicate effectively with classroom staff and direct supervisor on all matters related to the children
- Other duties within the scope of the position as requested by supervisor to fulfill job responsibilities
Qualifications:
- High school diploma/ HSE required.
- Child Development Associate (CDA) or associate degree in early childhood preferred
- Bi-lingual skills in English/Chinese or English/Spanish strongly preferred; Language will change based on program needs
- Two to three years' experience working with toddlers and preschoolers in a classroom setting
- Must have good organization, communication and writing skills
Work Schedule: This is a Per Diem position with vary days and hours as needed
