Financial Counselor

The Financial Counselor collects payments, sets up payment arrangements as appropriate, sets up contracts on self-pay patients. Assesses patient referrals from hospitals and creates contracts as appropriate, helps facilitate cash patients with Medicaid Application for deliveries.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Answers the telephone and forwards any calls to appropriate individuals.
• Schedules and processes referrals.
• Schedules and records patient appointments, advises patients of any necessary standard instructions and instructs new patients on procedures. Records cancellations or no shows.
• Greets patients and other visitors, directing them appropriately (i.e., assisting them in signing in, completing registration forms, or to the appropriate individual).
• Prepares sign-in sheets
• Verifies insurance.
• Handles all revenue at the time of patient check-out; collects applicable co-pays; and completes receipts for patients.
• Schedules patient follow-up appointments.
• Follows telephone and email etiquette standards as outlined in Customer Service Policy.
• Communicates in a calm, respectful, timely, and clear manner; demonstrates a caring attitude; which promotes professional relationships.
• Acknowledges all patients, team members, physicians and the public with positive, friendly eye contact and greets everyone by name in a warm and friendly manner. Uses positive body language.
• Maintains an organized, clean and presentable office work area.
• Consistently provides excellent customer service as evidenced by patient, patient surveys, and/or co-worker comments.
• Maintains privacy and confidentiality.
• Follows UNLV Health policies and procedures.
• Reports to work on time and as scheduled.
• Uses time clock, overtime and leave requests correctly and submits on time.
• Completes work within designated time.
• Adheres to dress code, including name badge. Maintains a neat and clean appearance.
• Assists with training of new personnel, as needed.
• Utilizes company resources responsibly, avoiding waste.
• Functions effectively in a Matrix Management environment.
• Completes any duties and special assignments as requested.

• Ordering Practice Plan Devices (WHC).
• Tracking and logging of all Family Planning Grant Devices.
• Assist with incoming Referrals.
• Utilizes company resources responsibly, avoiding waste.
• Functions effectively in a Matrix Management Environment.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma or equivalency.
  
  

QUALIFICATIONS

• 1 Year Front Office Experience.
• 1 Year Financial Counseling experience in a healthcare environment.
  
  

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• May include standing, sitting, and/or walking for extended periods.
• May include performing repetitive tasks.
• May include working on a special schedule (i.e. evenings and weekends with clients).
• May include working with challenging patients and clients.
