What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pediatric Optometrist position at UPMC?
The Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking an optometrist to join our Pediatric Ophthalmology Division at the UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, one of the top 10 children’s hospitals in the country. This is a rare opportunity to participate in a clinically challenging and stimulating environment allowing the clinician to provide great patient care to children and their families, as well as the ability to develop an academic / research-based career. The Pediatric Ophthalmology Division has sub-specialty clinics in Cornea, Cataracts, Glaucoma, Complex Strabismus, Neuro-ophthalmology, Oculoplastic, Uveitis, and Ocular Genetics. There is a myopia treatment center ( Myopia Treatment Center | Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh (chp.edu) and a Collagen cross linking center ( https : / / www.chp.edu / our-services / ophthalmology / collagen-cross-linking-center ). There are weekly division imaging rounds, lectures and weekly departmental grand rounds. Must possess a Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited optometry school and the ability to obtain a PA Optometry license.
Opportunity Details :
- Join a group of 7 physicians and 1 Optometrist.
- Will rotate between Children’s Hospital and three outpatient clinics.
- Hours are Monday-Friday, 8-4 : 30 with one ½ day administrative session.
- Practice full-scope optometry in a high-volume medical setting including failed vision screenings, contact lens fitting, anterior segment disorders, binocular vision evaluations, urgent care, provide triage and initiate patient referrals to appropriated sub-specialty clinics, and co-manage strabismus and amblyopia patients with our pediatric ophthalmologists.
- Specialty care duties will include Myopia control, specialty contact lens fitting for aphakia, keratoconus, and corneal transplants, and post-concussion evaluations and treatment. For the appropriate candidate there is opportunity to develop a low vision clinic in collaboration with the adult division at the new Vision Institute, and / or to help develop a pediatric dry eye clinic and ocular surface clinic.
- Participate in resident / fellow education, and work with and support our orthoptists and technicians (includes retinoscopy, keratometry, lensometry, optics, contact lens insertion and removal.
