What are the responsibilities and job description for the AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM COORDINATOR position at Upper Room KC?
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Serves as a liaison between Upper Room KC and partner afterschool sites.
- Monitors and supervises the activities of program employees and volunteers.
- Oversees daily operations of the program and determines priorities.
- Advises staff, volunteers, and participants and provides answers to questions and technical assistance.
- Complies with policies and procedures governing the program and ensures that the program is operating at maximum efficiency.
- Analyzes and evaluates the effectiveness of the program and develops new methods aimed at greater success.
- Reviews applications for potential employees and assists in the hiring and training process.
- Recruit participants for the program as well as volunteers using designated marketing methods.
- Trains new employees and volunteers to ensure proper operation of the program.
- Completes all paperwork required for funding and approval by management of all parts of the program.
- Maintain list of supplies and requests more as needed.
- Interacts with members of the community to help achieve program goals and objectives.
- Communicate with parents and help as needed.
- Maintain accurate recordkeeping.
- Develop and maintain community relations.
- Work in conjunction with outside agencies to promote collaboration and services.
- Support all programs as needed.
- Perform other duties as requested.

- Ability to determine and prioritize workload while being flexible to emergent/unplanned needs and situations.
- Significant decision making and problem solving in the allocation of resources to program components, supervisory issues, scheduling, and provision of program services.

- Strong organization and time management skills, ability to meet tight deadlines.

- Occasional substituting in the classrooms.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelors’ degree in Education, Project Management, Business preferred
- Minimum of three years professional leadership/management and supervisory experience preferably in a child/youth development or education.
- Preferred experience in administration, including balancing regulatory requirements with budget constraints and growing community needs.
- Demonstrates the ability to be well organized.
- Strong knowledge of theories and practice of child/youth development.
Upper Room must stress the importance of all staff taking necessary precautions while working with students and others as we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, all Upper Room staff must be vaccinated unless a) they present a physician’s note stating the employee is unable to receive the vaccine and b) submit weekly COVID-19 tests indicating a “negative” result. Costs for any COVID-19 testing will be the sole responsibility of the employee. Additionally, weekly testing will need to take place outside of an employee’s normal working hours to ensure minimal disruption in staffing.
