What are the responsibilities and job description for the Homework Club Transportation Driver position at Urban Scholar Academy?
Position is responsible for operating a van and transporting school-aged children from schools to the organization's facility located at 8473 South Van Ness, Suite 107, Inglewood, CA 90305. Position maintains van cleanliness; observes safety regulations and policies; enforces student discipline on the van; and performs related work.
Essential Duties
1. Communicates with the Homework Club director for any changes in normal duties or new student passengers, including communicating orally while the van is in motion when needed.
2. Ensures the van can be operated safely before driving and conducts pre-trip safety inspections as required by federal and state laws to include observing visual defects and checking operating systems to include brakes, horn, lights, emergency flashers, extended stop arms, and door-opening devices.
3. Operates the vehicle safely over an assigned route, picking up and delivering only authorized students to the academy and watches to ensure that no one hurrying for the van is left behind.
4. Keeps assigned time schedules, which may require driving during pre-day light and dusk periods, and makes every effort to be on time while ensuring safety.
5. Obeys all traffic laws and transportation practices as outlined in the CDL manual, Bus Driver Handbook, Academy Policy and local ordinances.
6. Maintains student discipline on the van and enforces rules governing student conduct, including through oral communication when the van is in motion.
7. Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.
8. Reports all accidents immediately, requesting police or ambulance service as needed; assists injured persons until services arrive; and completes required accident reports.
9. Notifies the proper authority in cases of mechanical failure, safety deficiencies, when off schedule, or other incidents.
10. Regulates heating, cooling, and ventilating equipment provided on the van for the comfort of passengers.
11. Returns the van to the assigned facility lot, performs a final inspection, and secures the van according to procedures.
12. Submits to drug testing when required.
13. Maintains a commercial driver’s license as required by the State Department of Transportation and maintains Red Cross First Aid/CPR certification.
14. Hear and communicate orally when the van is in motion.
15. Communicate effectively and positively with parents, students, staff and co-workers.
16. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities

Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour
