Position Overview:
The Project Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of projects involving piping and structural steel fabrication and installation. This hands-on leadership role requires someone with a proven track record in managing construction projects, ensuring safety standards, quality, and timely completion. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in both piping and structural steel, a strong understanding of project planning, resource management, and troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Management:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of piping and structural steel projects, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Review project plans, specifications, and drawings to ensure alignment with client requirements.
- Develop and manage project schedules, coordinate resources, and ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment.
- Act as the primary point of contact with clients, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure smooth project execution.
- Safety, Quality, and Productivity:
- Enforce a safety-first culture by ensuring full compliance with safety policies, OSHA regulations, and HAZMAT requirements.
- Conduct regular on-site safety inspections to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Ensure that work is performed to the highest standards of quality, including monitoring welding, piping, and structural installations.
- Drive continuous productivity improvements through lean principles and workflow optimization.
- Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead, mentor, and manage the performance of project teams, including foremen, tradesmen, and subcontractors.
- Provide clear direction and training on safety, quality control, and task execution.
- Resolve conflicts and performance issues, creating a collaborative environment.
- Ensure personnel have the tools and skills needed to perform tasks efficiently.
- Coordination and Communication:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all on-site project-related communications.
- Coordinate with departments like engineering, procurement, and quality control to ensure project success.
- Prepare accurate daily and weekly reports on project progress, issues, delays, or changes in scope.
- Problem Solving and Troubleshooting:
- Address issues that arise during the execution of piping and structural steel work, including design conflicts and installation challenges.
- Implement corrective actions to resolve delays or obstacles efficiently.
- Oversee troubleshooting of piping systems, structural steel alignment, and fabrication issues.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve processes, enhance safety, and reduce costs.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality control, and project management teams to enhance construction techniques.
- Promote innovation and efficiency in project execution.
- Documentation and Compliance:
- Maintain up-to-date records on project progress, change orders, material procurement, and safety compliance.
- Ensure all work meets regulatory and company standards.
- Support the preparation of project close-out documentation, including as-built drawings, warranties, and operation manuals.
Qualifications:
Experience:
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role on piping and structural steel projects.
- Proven experience managing large-scale, complex projects in the construction or manufacturing sectors.
- Extensive hands-on experience in the installation, fabrication, and management of piping and structural steel systems.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of project scheduling, budgeting, and resource management.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Expertise in problem-solving and troubleshooting within piping and steel fabrication/installation.
- Familiarity with construction management software and project management tools.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field is a plus.
- Certifications in safety (OSHA, HAZWOPER) or other relevant areas are preferred.
- Trade school or vocational training in piping, welding, or structural steel is highly desirable.
Job Requirements/Special Skills:

- Ability to manage multiple tasks, handle pressure, and adapt to changing conditions.
- Physical ability to work on a construction site, including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing, walking, bending, and navigating in varying environmental conditions (heat, cold, high noise levels).
