Under the supervision of the Customer Support Manager, the Specimen Accessioner is responsible for the accurate and efficient handling of clinical specimens from receipt to distribution. This includes strict adherence to laboratory protocols for sample handling, storage, and archival, as well as maintaining meticulous documentation. This role requires excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.

Essential Job Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Customer Support Manager, the Specimen Accessioner is responsible for the accurate and efficient handling of clinical specimens from receipt to distribution. This role requires excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.

Essential Job Responsibilities
- Receive, inspect, and verify incoming clinical specimens (e.g., blood, urine, tissue).
- Accurately label and log samples into the laboratory information system (LIS).
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and routing of specimens per SOPs.
- Maintain complete and accurate specimen records, including discrepancies or rejections.
- Communicate any specimen issues to supervisor/manager promptly.
- Follow all lab safety protocols and maintain compliance with regulatory guidelines (e.g., CLIA, CAP, HIPAA).
- Assist with laboratory supply tracking and general cleanliness of the workspace.
- Support laboratory staff with specimen preparation as needed.
- Manage sample archival and discard processes as instructed.
- Uphold a professional, empathetic, and team-oriented attitude.
- Additional responsibilities as deemed necessary.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in a science-related field preferred.
- Prior experience in a clinical lab, medical office, or specimen handling role is a plus.
- Computer proficiency required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Must adhere to biosafety and infection control standards.
- Ability to multi-task and remain self-motivated.
- Comfortable with exposure to biological specimens and lab reagents.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 30 lbs.
- Requires frequent standing, walking, seeing, hearing, and use of hands for fine motor tasks.
- Occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, and sitting.
