U.S. Got People is searching for a dedicated professional to work as a Phlebotomy Technician to work at the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center on Fort Cavazos, TX

  • Normal duty hours are from 0730 to 1630, Monday through Friday with either a 30 or 60-minute unpaid lunch period. Blood Drives require longer workdays, up to 12-hour days;

Job Requirements:

  • Degree/Education: High school equivalent and completion of a donor Phlebotomy program accredited by The Joint Commission or CAP.
  • Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support: Must have an active BLS through American Heart Association or military program
  • Experience: Must have performed 50 successful donor collections or patient venipunctures/sample draws with an accredited donor center, laboratory, plasma center, dialysis center, or healthcare facility
  • Board Certification: Certification/registration as a Phlebotomy Technician, Donor Phlebotomy Technician or equivalent by the American Society for Clinical Pathology, American Medical Technologists or other agency approved by the Assistant Secretary Defense (Health Affairs), ASD(HA).
  • Licensure/Registration: N/A

Job Duties:

To include but not limited too:

· The primary purpose of this position is to interact with donors to collect blood products. Performs a variety of duties on a rotating basis in various sections to include phlebotomy, donor interviews, bag issue, and phlebotomy (whole blood collections and regular phlebotomy) registration, vitals, and donor recovery.

· Aids during mobile blood drives to setup, break down, load and unload supplies. Interacts with donors and staff in a tactful, professional, and courteous manner.

· Draws blood samples on adults; reviews collection kit to ensure all required information is present;
determines types of specimens to be collected and if proper patient preparation has been accomplished; selects appropriate venipuncture site and cleans to ensure contamination-free field, considering any adverse reaction to cleaning solutions if indicated by Soldier/civilian or medical personnel.

· Performs routine and complicated venipuncture. Applies sterile dressing to site and instructs donors on care required to prevent infection and/or bruising. Provides immediate care to donors who may faint or become nauseous during the procedure.

· Collects specimens into appropriate anticoagulant, preservative or clot tubes as required by test requested.

· Takes donor history, temperature, pulse, blood pressure, hemoglobin, and initiate collection of single donor plasma and single donor platelets using apheresis equipment and standard procedures. Cleans and wipes equipment, monitor supplies and pulls outdated stock. Assembles equipment, verifies correct instrument operation, and reports defects. Receives donors, visitors and answers telephone calls. Determines nature of inquiry. Directs the inquiry to the appropriate section. Takes and relays messages.

· Always maintains cleanliness and orderliness of the section.

· Other duties as assigned.
