About Serving Your Country as a Part-Time Physician
Serve your country as a part-time physician in the Navy. This position does not require relocation. As a commissioned physician, you will attend to service members and their families, providing medical care similar to a civilian doctor. You'll enjoy an accelerated career track, with opportunities to participate in humanitarian relief efforts both stateside and around the world.
You will work at top military medical facilities, gaining access to advanced training and technology that may not be available in the civilian world. The Navy offers the opportunity to focus on medicine without financial or business complications associated with private practice. Start-up costs, malpractice insurance, staffing, equipment, and office management do not exist for Navy physicians.
Navy Physicians also:
- Earn excellent compensation in an established practice
- Experience manageable patient ratios for high-quality, one-on-one care
- Receive hands-on experience and Navy-funded advanced training
- Enjoy a flexible schedule allowing more time for family and personal pursuits
As a Navy Physician and Officer in the Navy Medical Corps, you will lead the respected Navy healthcare team, providing medical care for Sailors, Marines, service members, their families, and humanity at large. You will handle everything a typical physician does, including diagnosing ailments, treating injuries, and saving lives. You can also move beyond routine by:
- Working at best military medical facilities on shore, at sea, and in the field
- Joining with top healthcare professionals on the highly valued Navy healthcare team
- Collaborating with fellow military doctors and other healthcare officers, and partnering with International Relief Teams and organizations like FEMA, USAID, and Project Hope
- Operating as a leader within your focus area and gaining exposure outside your specialty
- Gaining management experience that serves well throughout your career
Serving part-time as a Reservist, your duties will be carried out during scheduled drilling and training periods. During monthly drilling, physicians typically work close to their homes, allowing flexibility to expand medical experience in the Navy without compromising civilian practice. For annual training, physicians may serve anywhere in the world, whether at sea, in hospitals stateside, or in bases and camps globally.
