What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shop Welder - FCAW position at US Trades?
We are seeking an experienced Shop Welder skilled in Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) to join our fabrication team. This role involves welding and assembling structural steel components in a shop environment with a focus on accuracy, safety, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform FCAW welding to fabricate structural steel components from shop drawings and blueprints
- Operate fabrication equipment including cutting torches, grinders, and overhead cranes
- Verify dimensions and tolerances to ensure finished products meet quality standards
- Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and detailed fabrication drawings
- Maintain clean and organized work areas with a strong focus on shop safety
- Assist in layout, fit-up, and assembly prior to welding when needed
- Inspect completed welds for structural soundness and conformance
- Work collaboratively with other welders, fitters, and shop personnel
Qualifications:
- 3 years of welding experience, preferably in a structural steel fabrication shop
- Proficient in FCAW in all positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead)
- Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and weld symbols
- Familiarity with AISC standards is a plus
- Must pass a weld test prior to employment
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work in a team-oriented environment
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable standing, bending, or kneeling for extended periods
- Ability to work in a loud, fast-paced fabrication shop
