Duties
Major duties:
- Folds, sorts, and stacks various rough dry items according to established procedures and/ or as instructed by the supervisor.
- Sorts and hangs uniforms on hangers on the portable racks and assists in the assembly of linen and miscellaneous requests from using services as the need arises.
- Responsible for linen cart make-up for each patient care building, and other out buildings.
- Assists in the station wide Annual Linen Inventory.
- Sorts and hangs patients' personal clothing.
- Keeps equipment and work areas clean and orderly.
- Assists in the processing, folding, sorting, and bundling of patients' personal clothing and the "finishing" of employee uniforms 'in accordance with established procedures and/ or supervisor's instructions.
- Maintains patient ward locator card file with information obtained from the Gains and Loss Sheet.
- Assists in the marking of new linens prior to putting them into service.

Physical Requirements: The position requires considerable lifting, bending over, and standing on concrete floor for long periods. The laundry can be a congested, hectic, noisy, hot or cold environment, including drafts. Humidity can also be unpleasant.

HPTs may be paid or unpaid and include residents, interns, fellows and students. HCP also includes VHA personnel providing home-based care to Veterans and drivers and other personnel whose duties put them in contact with patients outside VA medical facilities.
The Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP) and Career Transition Assistance Plan (CTAP) provide eligible displaced VA competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
