JOB DESCRIPTION The New York City office of Alston & Bird is conducting a search for a Case Assistant to work alongside attorneys in the Real Estate Practice Group. The Case Assistant program is an internship designed for those who have completed a bachelor's degree and are looking to gain professional experience before attending law school. It is designed to be a 10-to-13-month program. Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, Case Assistants perform a variety of duties to assist the paralegals and attorneys to whom they are assigned. This position is an in-office role with occasional flexibility to work remotely. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO Assist attorneys on commercial real estate cases and various finance asset deals. Facilitate deal closing procedures for transactions by preparing binders and signature pages. Work directly with attorneys and clients during due diligence. Assist attorneys with document maintenance by proofreading and formatting. Organize and index correspondence, memorandums, attorney notes, and other legal documents. Duplicate and redact documents. Maintain current and accurate time records and time sheets. SKILLS NEEDED TO BE SUCESSFUL A Bachelor’s Degree is required for this position with a strong interest in pursuing a career in law. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, self-motivated, team-driven, and able to work in a fast-paced environment. Ability to proofread typed material for contextual, grammatical, typographical, or spelling errors. Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential. Must be available to work overtime with short notice. PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS Ability to successfully express or exchange ideas by spoken word. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication. Various repetitive motions such as movements of the wrists, hands and/or fingers. Crouching, kneeling, standing, climbing, stooping, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting. Sitting most of the time. A case assistant will be paid an hourly rate of $32 and represents the firm’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of the posting.
