Responsibilities
Abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization's values; adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality; participates in the evaluation of environmental and safety issues and intervenes appropriately; assists with orientation of new employees as assigned; requires minimal supervision to safely perform essential functions; utilizes proper body mechanics when moving equipment that is necessary to perform essential functions; maintains a clean work area with appropriate forms and supplies; stays up to date and follows all Quality System procedures; responsible for Congenital Cardiac Heart Defect screening and hearing screening all newborns in the well-baby and NICU nursery during assigned shift; implements the screening with the ALGO AABR screening device, including American Academy of Pediatric guidelines; maintains accuracy and expertise in screening techniques; abides by Infection Control and Safety Standards, HIPAA guidelines, and baby safety guidelines; administers the hearing screening program to include: screening and confirmation of consent for screen or waiver, documentation of results in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and state reporting, processing refer results and scheduling follow-up rescreen, and provide parents with information regardless of the follow-up procedures; provides screening results and information to parents and staff providing care for the infant; monitors equipment supply needs; ability to read and interpret documents such operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence; ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form; ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations; ability to maintain productivity with minimal supervision; utilizes a PC or terminal to access the EMR; utilizes a PC to enter requests for unit maintenance and repair, schedule and coordinate diagnostic procedures and continued care follow-up appointments, order supplies as needed, and send results to the state of Alabama; communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families and healthcare team in person and via telephone; responds to overhead pages; maintains accurate and complete records by documenting results in the EMR, maintaining Newborn Screening Log, and reporting the state of Alabama; participates on committees as assigned; participates in Performance Improvement activities as assigned; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; related duties as required.
Qualifications
High school diploma and successsful completion of Newborn Hearing Screeening Traning Curriculum with the the National Center for Hearing Assessment and Management (NCHAM) within one month of employment. Certificate of Completion of Newborn Hearing Screening Training Curriculum with the NCHAM is preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures is preferred.
