Responsibilities
Abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization’s values; abides by Medical Staff By-Laws, Rules and Regulations and adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality; obtains and maintains appropriate Medical Staff privileges at USA Health University Hospital and USACWH; obtains and maintains Provider Credentials with insurance carriers, i.e. Blue Cross, Medicaid, Medicare, etc.; follows requirements set forth in the certificate of coverage pursuant to the University of South Alabama Professional Liability Trust Fund; the Evaluation Center MD with relevant expertise in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine/Pediatrics, or Emergency Medicine performs the following duties in an Emergency department: provides timely, courteous and efficacious care to patients; examines, diagnoses and prescribes treatments and medications; performs or orders tests and/or procedures for a variety of diseases and injuries using medical instruments and equipment; refers to medical specialists for consultation; communicates with patient’s primary physician as indicated; evaluates/stabilizes/transfers all adult patients that present to the Evaluation Center; collaborates and assists private physicians with disposition of patients in the Evaluation Center: utilizes proper body mechanics when moving, positioning and transferring patients without assistance or with assistance when needed for patient safety or when moving equipment that is necessary to perform essential functions; provides patient and family education by planning, coordinating and delegating, as appropriate, the educational needs of each patient; utilizes a personal computer or terminal to access the Clinical Information System; communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families and healthcare team in person and via telephone; responds to overhead pages and digital pager: maintains patient and medical records and completes charge documents and code records for billing purposes (collections for services rendered will be retained by the hospital); completes all mandatory unit, educational and hospital requirements; utilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the job; adheres to Infection Control and Safety Standards; demonstrates the ability to provide competent patient care to the following patient populations; participates in Quality Assurance, accreditation and continuing medical education activities; attends committee meetings and conferences which may require overnight travel; demonstrates effective time-management when providing patient care in a stressful environment; completes PALS, ACLS, and ATLS within one year of employment; maintains PALS, ACLS, and ATLS certification status with a six month window to complete course; participates in Performance Improvement activities through quality measurement or participation of PDSA; accesses and accurately maintains electronic and paper medical records; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required; related duties as required.
Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited medical school with a MD or DO degree, licensure with the state of Alabama as a MD or DO, board certification eligible in Cardiology, current DEA registration and current State of Alabama Controlled Substance Certificate, and eligible for USA Hospitals staff privileges.
