USMAT, Inc. is a small, fast-moving technology company developing innovative devices and advanced solutions. We’re looking for a highly technical, hands-on engineer who also communicates exceptionally well—especially in writing.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys autonomy, flexibility, and owning ideas from concept through execution. You’ll work across the full design cycle, contribute to program management, and have the creative freedom to propose and pursue new technical directions.

- Lead and contribute across the full design and development lifecycle
- Deliver high-quality technical work on contracted programs
- Clearly communicate ideas through writing and presentations
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders
- Engage with government customers as needed (primarily DC metro area)
- U.S. Citizenship
- Strong technical execution and problem-solving ability
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to represent yourself, your ideas, and the company professionally
- Passion for innovation and hands-on development
- Willingness to travel occasionally
- Ph.D. in Electrical, Mechanical, Biomedical, or related Engineering field
(M.S. considered with significant relevant experience)
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Self-driven, proactive, and detail-oriented
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability
- Comfortable in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
