UNIT DESCRIPTION: The Med Surg floor at PMC is a fast-paced environment which strives to consistently deliver high quality patient care, while promoting an atmosphere built on evidence-based practice and the pursuit of excellent clinical outcomes. Nurses can expect to care for patients with complex, multi-system health needs including cardiac related illnesses on telemetry, gastroenterology, pulmonary, infectious disease, endocrine, renal, hepatic, palliative and post-surgical recovery stays. The PMC Med Surg floor has 17 rooms with a maximum census of 25 patients. Four of the 17 rooms are private with 2 that negative pressure capability, a third room has both positive and negative pressure capabilities. The acuity evaluations of the nurses are used to determine assignments. On average each shift assignment has 1 nurse caring for 4-5 patients. On any given shift, we staff between two and three licensed nursing assistants.
