JOB TITLE:
Benefits Specialist
JOB PURPOSE:Under limited supervision, assist employees in understanding UW benefits. Determine eligibility for participation and resolve problems, interpret and apply Human Resources and University policies and procedures; assist manager with coordination of operations of specific duties in Benefits administration; develop and coordinate statistical data; assist manager with special projects, as required; represent manager in their absence as directed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Assist manager with coordination of duties for the Benefits unit.
- Assist with the administration of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Process leave requests and determine eligibility. Communicate sensitive and confidential information with employees concerning rights, responsibilities and determinations made by the manager. Ensure compliance with federal regulations, including those regarding health insurance protection. Monitor submission of medical certifications and fitness-for-duty statements. Coordinate FMLA administration with other plans and programs such as LTD, ADA, Workers' Comp, and donated sick leave.
- Provide customer service and respond to employee requests for benefits information. Assist with completion and processing of benefits forms. Interpret policies, procedures, and regulations in order to advise employees and family members concerning critical issues. Verify eligibility and process tuition waivers.
- Maintain accurate record keeping and filing systems.
- Provide appropriate interpretations to policies, procedures and regulations; assist manager in monitoring compliance with University, state and federal policies and regulations for designated major functional units.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:
This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
Experience: 1 years related experience, customer service experience, and/or experience in an office environment
Required licensure, certification, registration or other requirements: HR Certification Preferred
