We are currently hiring part-time Protective Security Officers (PSO) in the Lorton, Virginia area. This position requires applicants to possess a Virginia DCJS (Department of Criminal Justice Services) Armed Guard license and a SECRET clearance.

TWO SHIFTS AVAILABLE:

11 AM -7 PM FRIDAY /SATURDAY

3 PM-11 PM SATURDAY/SUNDAY

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Valentis Protective Security Officer (PSO) is responsible for providing armed security services at our client site, maintaining guard booth services, and conducting random foot patrols in and around the specific site area. PSOs may be required to respond to incidents and other situations as needed. The PSO is responsible for identifying and handling security threats, unsafe conditions or hazards, and/or other emergency situations. Working environments and conditions may vary based on the climate seasons.

PSOs must take appropriate action in response to civil disorders, terrorist threats, hostage conditions, and other adverse circumstances. Examples of such action include engagement of hostile forces, detaining and searching personnel, and summoning necessary fire, rescue, and other police personnel.

Applicants must be able to conduct themselves in a calm, professional manner to uphold the expected standards of our company. In addition, candidates will coordinate work with other officers at the site, respond to various inquiries for information and report pertinent information to company supervisors. Various levels of required training are required for this position and are company paid.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Foot and static post assignments are required to ensure the safety and security of the client, their staff, and visitors.
  • Proactively engages in security performance duties for maximum visibility and threat deterrence.
  • Actively seeks and engages in learning and development opportunities to ensure peak performance by completing and/or demonstrating the following:
  • Applies newly learned knowledge and skills on the job.
  • Shares information with others that may benefit from his/her expertise.
  • Seeks coaching and feedback to ensure high performance.
  • Composes, files, organizes and maintains documents, forms, reports, and other related information as needed.
  • Accomplishes specific work tasks on site to ensure the smooth and efficient flow of duty assignments.
  • Reports pertinent information to the immediate supervisor as requested, or according to an established schedule; compiles information as necessary or as directed and provides data to appropriate personnel.
  • Exhibits the ability to professionally interact with all individuals in a courteous manner, and is able to de-escalate potentially unsafe, hostile situations.
  • Performs tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or re-designed depending upon individual circumstances.
  • Maintains a suitable work location environment (i.e., office, vehicle, post) and general orderliness.

SPECIAL CONDITION

Candidates are required to successfully pass a series of physical and live fire readiness tests, semi-annually, and participate in all ongoing training to meet Protective Security Team requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Applicants must possess a valid Virginia DCJS (Department of Criminal Justice Services) Armed Guard license and must successfully possess a SECRET clearance.
  • Applicant must have a valid driver’s license, or the ability to access public transportation to ensure regular and predictable on-time attendance.
  • A minimum educational level of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A Minimum of three (3) or more years of armed security level work experience is desired.
    • Prior experience in law enforcement, military, or the security industry is a plus.
  • Must be able to handle and prioritize multiple assignments, and write effective, concise, and legible reports.

SKILL(s)

Proficient reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills; proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills; proficient typing skills; working knowledge of security services, along with the operational policies and procedures that impact such services; ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach with hands or arms, use hands to manipulate objects, handle or feel, and lift items weighing 30 lbs. or less; visual, auditory, and speaking skills.
