What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgical Tech First Assistant Full Time Days position at Valley Baptist Medical Center - Harlingen?
The Surgical Assistant, under the direction and supervision of the surgeon, provides aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure and other intraoperative technical functions. The Surgical Assistant may also perform preoperative and postoperative duties to facilitate patient care. Assist the operating surgeon in the care of patient in surgery by performing selected duties. Provides direct and indirect technical care to surgical/obstetrical patients. Facilitates safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures. Surgical Assistant follows established practices and standards. Surgical Assistant completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned to Surgical Assistant
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited program.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 3 years of scrub and/or assisting experience.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 5 years of surgical technician experience.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Must be Certified Surgical Technologist. Certification as a certified first assistant through the NBSTSA, ABSA or NSAA.
REQUIRED COURSES/ COMPLETIONS (e.g., CPR): BLS-Obtained through approved American Heart Association
