This position is accountable for providing competent nursing care for patients with common health problems, and is expected to deliver competent patient care to a full patient assignment. This position practices under the direction of the designated nurse executive, within the scope of the Nursing Practice Act, and in accordance with Children's polices.

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Valley Children’s Hospital is a highly specialized and crucial component of a larger healthcare facility. With 42 beds, it is designed to provide care for patients with high acuity needs. As part of a level 2 trauma center, our PICU is well-equipped to handle a wide range of medical and traumatic emergencies. The patient population of our PICU is diverse, reflecting the complex nature of cases we manage. Approximately 30% of patients are cardiac patients, requiring specialized care for repair of congenital heart defects. Another 30% of patients fall under the category of neuroscience, necessitating expertise in treating neurological disorders and injuries. The remaining 40% of patients are acutely ill with a wide variety of disorders. Our excellent outcomes indicate that the PICU at Valley Children’s is skilled in providing quality care for the sickest of the sick. EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 1 year nursing experience required and must meet RN II clinical advancement program criteria
- Experience in pediatrics, PICU and/or hospital inpatient setting a plus
- Bilingual skills desirable
EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program, Bachelor’s in Nursing strongly preferred
- Active California Registered Nurse licensure (RN)
- HeartCode Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer into position
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 12 months of hire or transfer into position
