- Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all requests or concerns through proper channels.
- Presents timely and valid information concerning schedules, tournaments, results and statistics to Assistant Principal or Athletic Director, as required.
- Promotes the athletic program, for which they are coaching.
- Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of content and sport.
- Assesses skill and ability of athletes. Demonstrate knowledge of student athletes relating to their age and varied skill level.
- Demonstrates knowledge of resources for coaches.
- Creates a team environment of respect and rapport in both coach-athlete and athlete-athlete interaction.
- Establishes a culture for learning, instilling the importance of skill, success, effort to win, and expectations of achievement.
- Monitors student athlete behavior in and out of season.
- Organize/coordinates physical space and calendars for placement on master building schedule with Assistant Principal or Athletic Director
- Communicates, orally or in writing, with players, parents and Athletic Office expectations and procedures for the entire program.
- Designs coherent instruction and/or practices, group and team time. Engage all athletes in learning through individual activities, group and team instruction.
- Provides clear instruction and positive feedback.
- Demonstrates flexibility in adjusting practices, responding to athlete’s needs and areas of concern.
- Maintains accurate program records of awards, wins/losses, and statistics.
- Reflects on coaching/performance in order to assess personal growth. Pursue Professional Development and continued growth through attendance at sport specific clinics.
- Supervises issuance and collection of uniforms and equipment at all times.
- Supervises practice, contest and locker room facilities and the transportation of athletes to and from practice and contests.
- Develops team morale and rapport.
- Instructs and corrects the students constructively, while using PBIS strategies.
- Prepares team for contests. Use effective game strategy.
- Possesses a working knowledge of basic first aid procedures, treatment and rehabilitation of injures.
- Demonstrates enthusiasm, motivation, proper fundamentals and sportsmanship.
- Conducts oneself in a professional manner on and off the field.
- Attends required meetings and coaching clinics.
- Reads current literature.
- Cooperates with school and district administration and implement recommendations for improvement.
- Promotes the program and/or games to the media related to their specific sport (Applicable to the High School level only).

- QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be a certified teacher or hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from a college or university and has completed a coach training program approved by the IHSA or IESA Board of Directors, such as ASEP (American Sport Education Program).
- Must hold a current CPR/First Aid/AED license.
- Knowledge of the assigned sport.
- Previous coaching experience in the assigned sport is preferred
- Negative TB test is required

REPORTS TO: Building Assistant Principal/Athletic Director
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for instrucing athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the student shall receive instruction that will lead to the formulation of price of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline and self-confidence.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: Work is performed inside and outside; with the outside environment including exposure to inclement weather, heat and humidity. Physical activity is representative of those encountered when participating in each specific co-curricular sport.
WORKING CONDITIONS: The terms of employment are subject to the AFT Collective Bargaining Agreement. Employment with Valley View School District outside of the coaching role or intent to seek employment with Valley View School District is strongly preferred.
